Roto-Copter

At Champlain Maker Faire, as part of the Vermont Makers Flight Mashup we will show folks of all ages how to make a Roto-Copter! This pattern came from the absolutely fabulous Exploratorium website.

Why does the Roto-Copter spin?

When the Roto-Copter falls, air pushes up against the blades, bending them up just a little. When air pushes upward on the slanted blade, some of that thrust becomes a sideways, or horizontal, push.

We included this activity at Champlain Mini Maker Faire because we are inspired by Steve Seremeth’s Aeroquad.

The Exploratorium is a museum of science, art and human perception in San Francisco and its website has an astounding collection of educational materials.

Thank you to the MFA in Emergent Media Program at Champlain College for helping us share the art and science of the Roto-Copter with folks of all ages at Champlain Mini Maker Faire!
